The problem
The kitchen extraction system (extractor hood and extraction ductwork) in professional kitchens often gets very dirty because of intensive use.
As well as the hygienic and technical aspects, this also increases the risk of fire in the kitchen extraction system, albeit latent. Fire insurance will not cover any damage in the event of fire when there is evidence of poor maintenance. After all, as an owner you are required to do everything possible to keep the risk of fire as low as possible.
An additional problem is when the extraction ducting is not watertight. This means that the ducting cannot be cleaned with liquids (for example, a solution of water and degreaser).
Current solution
When this specifically involves the cleaning of the extraction ducting of an extractor hood, cleaning using corrosive agents, chemicals, mechanical methods or even manually using cutters/scrapers and steel brushes is often opted for. These methods are extremely labour-intensive and do entail risks for the cleaners.
Because of the often difficult to reach areas, this only leads to a partially acceptable result. There is a high risk of environmental damage caused by, for example, leakage, due to the fact that the air duct network is not structurally watertight.
The solution
The coating that is used ensures a less environmentally damaging, less labour-intensive and safe working method for the people carrying out the work. This means a significant improvement in quality of the service that is provided.
The solution: coating of extraction ducting. This solution comprises 2 stages.
Stage 1: Apply a “unique” seal/coating inside the extraction ducting
The exhaust system is provided with special, environmentally friendly and non-combustible (water-based) seal/coating. This coating can adhere to contaminated surfaces.
The risk of fire is significantly reduced and the ducting is virtually watertight. The risk of cuts or burns is minimised or even ruled out.
Stage 2: Maintenance of the treated extraction ducting;
- The regular maintenance is less labour-intensive.
- Less aggressive cleaning products can be used.
- The risk of environmental damage is minimised.
